Another Film Concept…

Hey guys, Ryan Lamont here with a wee blog. It’s taken me quite a while to update this ol’ thing, mainly due to the piles of schoolwork I’ve been battling recently. I’ve been really focussing on my short film for my Film&TV class. But things haven’t been going too well…
The first concept, “Dark Secret”, was too complicated to organise all of the actors and get it filmed. So then came “Quad Narrative” which I realised was too dull in the pre-production phase, and I just wasn’t passionate enough about it. So I created “Her Last Phone Call”, a horror film I was rather excited to film. But the managing of actors became a hassle and after filming the first scene I realised it would take weeks and weeks to film – weeks I could not afford to spend on filming, so I dropped that film concept. I was happy with my fourth film concept, “Fight Crime”, but when an actor dropped out due to a lack of interest, and I stepped in to fill their role, it became a tad harder to film. But still, it was going well, I had filmed half of the film in a few hours! So the next weekend I organised to film the second half. Today we filmed it, and it was going… okay… I wasn’t loving it, but it was okay. Then a grumpy farmer informed us that the tiny strip of road we were planning to film on was private property, his private property, so we were quickly told to vacate the area. And that became the excuse that I used to stop on this film I had a dying interest in.
Lucky for me I have an abundance of ideas, and am flexible and optimistic. My film teacher, mother and probably the actors too, have begun doubting whether I’ll ever finish this project. But I know I’ll get it done. I’m a perfectionist, so I can’t bring myself to continue work on a crap film. But I’m an optimist, hard worker and a creative individual, so I don’t mind putting in extra work to get the film I want to make.
I’m looking through V 48 Hour Film Competition entries, re-watching my previous short films and looking through all of the footage I’ve shot for school, and hopefully before the weekend is over I shall have a new film concept. I know on Monday I’m going to be mocked by my film teacher, and my mother has already tried to deter me from abandoning this project. But I’m happy to rework past ideas and abandon bad ones, so that I can create a film I’m proud of.
So hopefully in a blog in the future I will present you with my short film. But for now I’m back at step one, trying to conceive a concept.
Thanks for reading guys
