Hey guys, I’m Ryan Lamont, an eighteen year old guy with a passion for film and television! I was born in England, London and moved here to New Zealand at the age of twelve. I currently live in the Waikato and plan to move to Auckland in 2012 for film school. I am an aspiring director, with filmmaking being one of my greatest passions.

I have a YouTube channel on which I present my filming endeavours. I create video blogs (also know as vlogs), short films and other such videos. I want to build a subscriber base on YouTube, so that I have a waiting and eager audience for my future filming endeavours. Critique and opinions on my work are what I attempt to get when posting on YouTube, for I am constantly trying to improve my skills in video and film creation, as well as my presence on camera.

I am an eager member of the New Zealand YouTube (NZYT) community and revived it, when it lulled in 2010, when I created the NZYT Community blog. I posted daily on the blog and had segments such as ‘New Zealand YouTuber of the week’ and ‘New Zealand YouTube video of the week’ – along with video-making tips and information on various NZYT gatherings. I hoped to bring a sense of community back to NZYT with the blog, and I think I have, with there now being a small yet thriving group of New Zealand-based video makers all connecting and bonding. With this group of awesome video makers I hope to host a NZYT gathering in 2012, which will most likely take place in Auckland.

I am a passionate writer, writing daily – whether it is blogs, film scripts, novels or short stories. I heard about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in 2009 in December, and then partook the next year in 2010 during November. I achieved the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel in 30 days (finishing in 28). The editing and rewriting of the novel has been put on hold due to my busy final year of school. But I definitely plan on revisiting this novel. I hope to become a published author in the future, since I really enjoy sharing and creating stories!

As a passionate filmmaker and storyteller I try to consume as many films and novels as possible! I have watched a great many films, with the Harry Potter series being a key inspiration for me – along with the original books written by J.K Rowling. I am a great fan of Disney*Pixar’s and Hayao Miyazaki’s films – finding their intricate stories, memorable characters and deeper meanings very entertaining and inspiring. My favourite film would have to be Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘Spirited Away’, since it’s pure fantastical narrative and beautiful design simply blows my mind.

I am a very arts based person, as you can probably tell by now, so of course I also enjoy performing in the theatre and on screen. I haven’t done much on-screen work apart from my own YouTube videos and short films, but I have performed in two drama productions at the drama academy I used to attend. I’d love to become a better actor and do some on-screen roles. But I do prefer the behind-the-camera roles, where I’m allowed to be really creative.

I am also a keen traveller, eager to see as much of the world as possible, and learn of other’s fascinating cultures. I’ve travelled to the USA eleven times, with my entire family being great fans of the Walt Disney theme parks and other rollercoaster parks such as: Universal Studios Orlando, Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Busch Gardens. I have also travelled to: England, Scotland, France, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and of course New Zealand. I’m visiting Los Angeles yet again in 2011, with Italy, Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands being on my ‘To travel to after film school’ list.

That’s a pretty good introduction to me I think.
